Press Release on 37 Maldivian patients

Upon the request of the Government of Maldives, India has permitted the travel of 37 seriously-ill Maldivian patients to Kochi to pursue medical treatment. Several of these patients suffer from cancer and require radiation treatment.

India has not opened its borders to foreign travelers yet, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, in the spirit of the time-tested relations between the people of India and the people of Maldives, India will allow the travel of these patients at their earliest convenience, as a humanitarian gesture. We wish the patients a full and speedy recovery.
