The 2nd Special Course for Diplomats from Iran from 06-17 February 2023


The 2nd Special Course for Diplomats from Iran is being held at the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS), Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi from 06-17 February 2023. Twenty-one young diplomats from Iran are participating in this course. The Special Course was inaugurated on 06 February 2023 by Dean (SSIFS), Amb. Sanjiv Ranjan.

The training programme would include modules on India’s foreign policy, India’s relations with Iran, India’s relations with its neighbouring countries, UN reforms, role of connectivity, India’s success story in its pandemic response, food security, GoI’s economic initiatives and economic reforms, digital empowerment, climate change, multilateral diplomacy, negotiation skills etc. There will also be sessions on Ayurveda and various facets of Indian culture. As a part of their study tours in New Delhi, the young diplomats would be visiting Rashtrapati Bhavan, Election Commission of India, TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute), Delhi Metro Headquarters and a media house. A day-long visit to Agra (Taj Mahal) is also planned.

India and Iran share a millennia-long history of interactions. The contemporary relations between the two countries are marked by high level exchanges, commercial cooperation, connectivity paradigm, cultural and people to people ties. There exists an institutional mechanism for cooperation in diplomatic training between the two countries with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard on 04 May 2013. Prior to this Special Course, 44 diplomats from Iran have trained at SSIFS.
