Shri Vinod Kumar, Ambassador of India to Uzbekistan

Ambassador Vinod Kumar was born in 1959 in Sitapur (Uttar Pradesh).  He studied in different schools in Uttar Pradesh and graduated from Allahabad University.  He obtained degree in M.Sc (Mathematical Statistics) from Lucknow University.  He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1983, after briefly working for the State Bank of India as Probationary Officer. 

In the course of his career spanning more than three decades in India’s Diplomatic Service, he served in various positions in Delhi and abroad.  Between 1983 and 2000, he served in Indian Missions in Moscow, Bangkok and St. Petersburg, interspersed with stints at Headquarters. 

Mr Kumar attended the course on Defence and Strategic Studies at the National Defence College, New Delhi in 2000. He was Deputy Chief of Mission and Deputy High Commissioner in Thimphu and Canberra  respectively from 2001 to 2009.  Subsequently, he served as Joint Secretary (Public Diplomacy) and Joint Secretary (Multilateral Economic Relations) at Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi. 

Mr Kumar was High Commissioner of India to Fiji, with concurrent accreditation to the Cook Islands, Kiribati, Nauru, Tonga and Tuvalu from 2010 to 2014.  He also dealt with the Pacific Islands Forum and other pacific regional organisations in Suva.  He was holding the position of Additional Secretary (International Organisations) from 1st September, 2014 to 13th May, 2015.  He arrived in Tashkent as Ambassador-designate of India to Uzbekistan on 14 May, 2015.

Mr Vinod  Kumar is married to Dr Krishna Kumar and has two sons and one daughter.
