India’s first ever participation at the12th Cyprus Rialto World Music Festival, will take place with performances in Nicosia, Larnacaand Limassol on 17, 18 and 19 July, 2017. India’s participation in the events will showcase the best of Indian culture in Cyprus and is expected to further strengthen India-Cyprus relations in the field of culture. The High Commission of India, in collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, will participate for the first ever time at the 12thCyprus Rialto World Music Festival, Limassol with AbhisekLahiri, Sarod maestro and accompanying musiciansShri SoumenNandy on Tabla and Shri SayamPanja on Tanpura. They will be travelling to Cyprus from India to participate in the events in Cyprus. Additionally, AbhisekLahiri, Sarod maestro will also give performances in Nicosia and Larnaka. Sarod is a stringed instrument of India of lute family common to the Hindustani music tradition of northern India. Maestro Lahiri, one of the youngest award winning Indian sarod artist. He has blended his baaj by the norms of the venerable raagdariwith the neoteric idiosyncrasy of chalan, taan, chords and by introducing unanticipated instantaneous notes and startling phrases. He was trained under his eminent father and guruPanditAlokLahiri. His approach of sarod playing belongs to the three major gharanasof Sarod. He started performing in public at an early age of 11 years. In 1977, he gave his debut performance in Holland at the "World Kinder Festival" where he was named as a 'Wonder Kid'. It has followed extensive concerts through Europe, U.S.A., Canada, Sri Lanka, Japan, and Bangladesh apart from India. He with his father PanditAlokLahiripossesses the distinction of performing as the first Indian at the European Parliament in France, Cannes World Music Festival and also in Canada Culture Days in Toronto. His music albums "Sparkling Sarod" and "Mood of PuriyaKalyan" got nominated at GIMA (Global Indian Music Awards) in 2010 and in 2014 respectively.
