International Yoga Day June 21, 2017

The third International Day of Yoga with lot of zeal and fervor on the lawns of New Chancery on June 21, 2017 in the early morning hours.  The ceremony was started with Ambassador’s welcome speech in which he explained the benefits of Yoga and was followed by practice of all yogic postures and pranayama, including dhyana as per the Common Yoga Protocol. 

2. Mission also mounted a photo exhibition on IDY 2017, depicting different types of yoga, general guidelines, yoga postures, pranayama, hasta mudras and life-style diseases.  The event was attended by 150 people- local Afghans, expatriates, including members of diplomatic corps, ladies, children and Embassy officials, including ITBP contingent. The event was also covered live by prominent Afghan Media.

3. The Mission had also printed T-shirts and created DVDs, containing material on Yoga books and movies on various life-style diseases which were distributed to all the guests. With a view to promote yoga, the Mission is regularly organizing yoga classes through Shri Hoti Lal, SS(PPS) at the Embassy, three times a week for Afghans and expatriates and every day for its own officials. Also Mission has utilized its social media platform for the promotion of yoga and International Yoga day in Afghanistan.

4. The program was very well received. All guests took par with enthusiasm and having know the benefits the practice of yoga can accrue. Also the photos of the IYD 2017 celebration is enclosed herewith.
