Last date of submission of application by erstwhile PIO Cardholders for registration as Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Cardholder

All PIO Cardholders residing in Maldives are advised to urgently replace their PIO card with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card.  Ministry of External Affairs, India has extended the date for submission of application till 31/12/2017. Deadline will not be extended further.

PIO Card holders those travelling to India on the strength of their PIO cards (hand written) after International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) guidelines/rules (with respect to travel with machine readable travel documents) come into effect from October/November, 2018, will be refused entry at the Indian Immigration Counters and sent back.

After expiry of deadline (31/12/2017), any request for conversion of PIO card into OCI card, will attract a fee of MVR 4300/- which is same as charged for issuance of fresh OCI card.

All the PIO Cardholders residing in Maldives are advised to submit their application well before the deadline (31/12/2017) to avoid any inconvenience for obtaining the OCI Cards.
