- Documentation is extremely important and you must ensure that the relevant papers are in order. Please make sure that any contract signed is in English language or bilingual and go through it carefully before signing it. Please do not sign a contract which is only in Russian or Uzbek language and the contents are not clear.
- Students should ensure that the medium of instruction for the course is English.
- Browse through the websites of the respective university. It is in the interest of aspiring students who wish to study in Uzbek universities to do thorough survey & satisfy themselves about the credibility of courses offered by these universities and also about their agents involved, if any. Some of the self-styled agencies of these Universities may be advertising through their own website (s) and/or through electronic and print media and offering admission in these universities. These advertisements do not often present the correct picture and in most of the cases, they are exaggerated. Please thoroughly cross-check the authenticity of information circulated by them.
- Get full and accurate details of actual costs involved such as Tuition Fee/Boarding/Lodging/Other Expenses. Also cross check and verify what the agent quotes.
- Students must check in advance the availability hostel facilities at the University where they are seeking admission.
- Passport and original testimonials are the property of the concerned student and should not be given to agents or any other authorities for safe custody. It is the personal responsibility of individual concerned to keep the passports and testimonials safely.
- Ensure that visa formalities are arranged by respective authorities in the university well in advance to avoid last minute hassles. Before exiting Uzbekistan for short term vacation or leave, ensure that the visa is sufficiently validated to re-enter Uzbekistan.
- Any student during the stay in Uzbekistan requires treatment for any complicated ailment/major surgery etc., he/she is advised to go to India or elsewhere.
- Uzbekistan is fairly safe, secure and friendly especially towards Indian nationals. There is a great deal of goodwill for India. However, caution is always advised for foreigners particularly students while spending late night hours in public places and mingling with strangers.
- Temperatures across Uzbekistan can get very cold (with temperature sometimes dipping upto -10 degree Celsius during November-March). The students are advised to equip themselves with sufficient woolen clothing and winter shoes.
- Always keep a list of important telephone numbers and copies of your passport, visa endorsement and residence permit, and University ID Card with you in person. Police authorities on streets sometimes demand these documents for verification.
- Once the course is completed, all the degrees, certificates awarded by Universities in Uzbekistan are required to be apostilled with the Ministries of Education. This requirement is mandatory before their submission to Indian organizations such as MCI and other State Medical Councils etc. for registration purposes.

“Advisory/Information for students desirous of Pursuing Medical Studies abroad” Over the years, there has been an increase in the number of Indian students going abroad to pursue medical education. Earlier, all students interested in taking a medical qualification from outside India were required to get an eligibility certificate from the government before leaving for their studies. However, since 2019, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has made mandatory for the students to clear the NEET-UG (National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Under Graduate) exam, which is the entry examination for undergraduate medical education in India, as a prerequisite to pursue medical education abroad. - Beginning 2019, only those students who appear for the NEET-UG for admission to Undergraduate medical education in India will be eligible to appear for the screening test, namely, the Foreign Medical Graduates’ Exam (FMGE). This step has been an important advancement in screening of students and has been well received by the host countries as well. However, as the quality of education in various countries differs considerably; continued and systematic efforts in providing guidance to students regarding selection of course and institution to gain maximum academic exposure is needed.
- As per the IMC (Indian Medical Council) Act, 1956, all students who acquire a medical qualification from countries outside India are required to clear the FMGE in order to practice in India. The Exam is conducted by the National Board for Examination (NBE) twice (i.e. in June and December) every year.
- It may be noted that the number of students, having medical degrees from Institutions abroad, appearing for FMGE in 2009 was 6170, which has increased to 21,351 in 2018. However, the pass percentage of students appearing for the FMGE has been very low, and continues to be below 20%. NBE has published a list of country-wise performance of Indian candidates in FMGE for the period 2015-2018 (copy attached).
- All Indian students desiring to undertake medical education abroad should take into account the above mentioned information. In case they need any clarification about any particular institution, they may contact Indian Mission in the country where they seek to take admission. The students are also advised to visit official website of Medical Council of India (https://www.mciindia.org) constantly to know the list of accredited foreign medical institutions/universities for MBBS or equivalent courses; and other important useful information.
