PIO Card Scheme

  • With effect from 09.01.2015  issuance of PIO card has been stopped.
  • As per Gazette Notification No.26011/01/2014-IC.I dated 09.01.2015, all PIO cards already issued will be deemed to be OCI.
  • With the latest instructions received from Govt. of India, all PIO card holders are advised to convert their PIO cards into OCI cards by 31.12.2017.  Accordingly, submission of application for registration as OCI card holder in lieu of the PIO card online, the date for submission of online applications by the erstwhile PIO card holders (with valid PIO cards as on 09.01.2015) has been extended till 31.12.2017.  The erstwhile PIO cardholder with a valid PIO card as on 09.01.2015 will have to upload only the following documents with his/her application :- a) copy of the valid Passport b) copy of the PIO card.  The applicants can submit their applications online in the concerned Mission within the jurisdiction of their place of residence.
  • The conversion from PIO to OCI cards is gratis.  However, applicant may have to pay the service charges as well as postage charges.
  • In case of loss of PIO card, the applicant will have to pay the OCI card replacement fee of USD103.
