Details

Today on January 31, 2008, Thursday, at around 0720 hours, a suicide bomber in a Toyota Corolla car exploded near an Afghan National Army Coaster bus in Taimani area of Kabul city. Reportedly the bomber missed the target. As per available information, one local was killed and four others injured in the explosion. Two taxis and a bicycle were also damaged. One of the main spokesmen for the extremist Taliban movement, Zabihullah Mujahed, claimed that his group was responsible for attack. Buses carrying ANA and ANP personnel have remained constant target of Taliban militants and many ANA/Police personnel have been killed in previous four major attacks in Kabul city since June, 2007.

2.         In view of scaling up of suicide attacks and militants activities of all kinds in Kabul city since December 2007, all Indian nationals in Kabul and Afghanistan are advised to remain extra vigilant at all times for their own safety and security. Today’s suicide attack once again displays the determination of militants to strike at will. It is reiterated that movements within the city may be curtailed to necessary minimum and a safe distance must be maintained from Afghan Military and Police/NATO/CF convoys/buses as they continue to remain primary targets of militants. To ensure your safety and security a fixed pattern of movement in the city may also be avoided, including regular visits to restaurants frequented by foreigners. Indians are also requested to keep themselves aware about the security scenario in Afghanistan through local visual/print media as well as through interaction with their fellow colleagues in various organizations to keep themselves abreast of developments.
