Subroto Cup 2016

1.      For the sixth time in as many years, the Afghan Sub-Junior boys (U-14), Junior boys (U-17) and Junior girls (U-17) Football teams are all set to go to India to participate in the prestigious Inter School ‘Subroto Cup Football Tournament’.  Subroto Cup is an All India Football Tournament, started in 1960 and organized by the Subroto Mukerjee Sports Education Society (Indian Air Force). The 57th edition of the tournament will be held in Delhi in three phases i.e. 14 Sep 16 to 30 Sep 16 for U-14 boys, 25 Sep 16 to 10 Oct 16 for U-17 girls and 04 Oct 16 to 21 Oct 16 for U-17 boys.  The aim of the tournament is to use sports to foster friendship among the youth of India and foreign countries.   

2.      Whereas the Indian school teams compete at sub-division, districts, division, state & National level for securing a place for the championship, teams from various foreign countries are invited to participate directly for the Cup.  124 teams, including teams from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia and UAE will vie for top honors in the three categories in this year’s tournament.  Rivaldo, Brazil’s former star striker and World Cup winner will grace the final of the Subroto Cup football tournament this year.

3.      The Afghan teams get a rousing welcome and massive popular support every time it plays in Subroto Cup.  Last year, Sub Junior boys team (U-14) had reached the finals of the tournament. Embassy of India, Kabul on behalf of all Indians wishes whole hearted success to the three teams of Afghanistan.
