Lal Bahadur Shastri Centre for Indian Culture
Lal Bahadur Shastri Centre for Indian Culture (LBSCIC) is a Centre of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in Tashkent. The Centre holds free regular classes in Hindi, Kathak, Tabla and Yoga. The Centre was established in 1995 and renamed as Lal Bahadur Shastri Centre for Indian Culture in 2005. The key activities of the Centre are as follows:
- Conducting regular Hindi, Kathak, Tabla and Yoga classes
- Organizing Cultural events and Workshops
- Organizing Lectures, Seminars and Exhibitions
- Implementing official Cultural Cooperation Programme
- Disseminating Information about India, its way of life and Culture
- Administering Government of India Scholarship Programmes
LBSCIC organises cultural events in Tashkent and other regions of Uzbekistan and also collaborates with other institutions. It screens Indian films and documentaries. The Centre organizes ‘Hindi Manch’ on last Friday of every month which provides a platform to Uzbek Nationals to interact and participate in various activities in Hindi.
LBSCIC arranges visits of Indian cultural troupes to Uzbekistan, including for participation in local festivals such as “Sharq Taronalari”.
The Cultural Centre also administers various Scholarship Programmes offered by ICCR and the Government of India to pursue higher education in Indian educational insitutions.
The Centre maintains a Library with books in Hindi, English, Urdu, Uzbek and Russian languages besides a Reading Room.
