Visit of Pharmaceutical delegation led by Hon'ble Shri Mansukh L. Mandaviya, Minister of State for Chemicals & Fertilizers to Uzbekistan (20-23 February 2018)

An eight member delegation led by Hon’ble Shri Mansukh L. Mandaviya, Minister of State for Chemicals & Fertilizers visited Uzbekistan from 20th February 2018 to explore ways and means to enhance bilateral cooperation in pharmaceutical and medical devices sector. The delegation included Shri Sudhansh Pant, Joint Secretary (Pharmaceuticals); Shri Rajbir Singh Panwar, PS to the Hon’ble MOS; Prof. Raghuram Rao Akkinepally, Director, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education & Research (NIPER); Shri Ravi Udaya Bhaskar, Director General, Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India and industry representatives. Besides having official meetings in Tashkent, the delegation also visited Andijan, Syrdarya and Bukhara regions.

The delegation had interaction with the First Deputy Minister of Health of Uzbekistan H.E. Mr. Baxodir Kaxramonovich Yusupaliyev, and also met the Governors and senior officials of Andijan, Bukhara and Syrdarya regions. Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in pharmaceutical sector and to explore opportunities for joint production of medicines, medical devices and cultivation of medicinal plants. A joint statement on cooperation with the Andijan region was issued. Hon’ble MOS invited the Uzbek side to participate in the upcoming iPHEX 2018 scheduled to be held in New Delhi in May 2018, and “India Pharma 2019” in February 2019.

The delegation paid a visit to the Tashkent Pharmaceutical Institute and the State Medical Institutes at Andijan and Bukhara, and discussed mutual cooperation between these institutes and the Indian National Institute for Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in the area of joint research, training and exchange of experts, students and faculty programmes. 

One of the highlights of this visit was the holding of an India-Uzbekistan Business Forum at the Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce in Tashkent which was attended, besides official delegations, by businesspersons from both sides in the pharmaceutical sector.
