India & Bhutan maintain a visa free regime. Bhutanese nationals do not need visa for travel to India.
Foreign nationals living in the jurisdiction of CGI, Phuentsholing (districts of Samtse, Chukha, Dagana, Sarpang, Pema Gatshel and Samdrup Jonkhar) and desirous of visiting India may please apply for visa e.g (Tourist, Transit and Business etc).
An applicant may submit the Visa Application Form in person to CGI, Phuentsholing along with the TELEX Form, two recent passport size photographs, copy of Bhutanese Visa/ Work Permit and air/train tickets. The purpose of visit i.e tourist/ transit/ business etc. may be clearly indicated. Incomplete visa forms would not be accepted.
Various types of visa
1. Tourist Visa
Tourist visas are valid for a period of six months. Change of purpose is not allowed. All the places in India proposed to be visited for tourism may be mentioned.
2. Transit Visa
The Visa applicant may please attach copies of confirmed air tickets (from Bhutan to India & onwards). Transit Visa is valid for a maximum stay of 72 hours (3 days) in India. If transit is by surface/land route, the applicant may indicate the place of entry and the place of exit with dates and also the mode of transport. If the journey is to be performed by train in India, then the copy of confirmed train ticket may be enclosed with the application.
3. Business Visa
Applicants for a business visa are requested to attach business invitation letter from the Indian company, the recommendation letter from the Bhutanese Employer stating that they would meet the cost of business travel & stay, proof of residence for more than two years in our jurisdiction, proof of annual gross sales/turnover of at least Rs. 10 million from business with Indian company.
