Press Release on Accident at Almalyk Project Site

The Embassy of India received the unfortunate news of an accident involving collapse of metallic roof at a work shed at the Almalyk project site, 70 kms south of the city of Tashkent which took place at 8.10 am today i.e. 20 February 2024.  The accident resulted in the death of three Indian workers while 30 other Indian workers were injured.  The injured workers are being treated at the Almalyk City Hospital. 

M/s. Enter Engineering, the employer of the Indian workers informed the Embassy of the accident immediately after which Embassy officials visited the site of the accident, met the Indian workers employed at the site and the injured workers at the hospital. The Embassy officials also met the local authorities, the team of doctors treating the injured and the senior officials of the Almalyk project site and M/s. Enter Engineering to impress upon them the need to provide all possible assistance to the victims.  The Embassy has also assured all possible assistance to the Indian workers employed at the site.  The local Indian community has also offered to help the victims.  Close to 4500 Indian workers are employed at the site.

The following Indian workers lost their lives in the tragic accident:

  • Mr. Saifuddin Maity, Rajnagar, West Bengal
  • Mr. Rajib Karan, Baharda, West Bengal
  • Mr. Harish Patel, Deoria

 

The Embassy expresses its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased workers.
