Dr. Hifzur Rahman is a Diplomat of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India since June 2001.
Prior to joining the Mission in Damascus, Dr. Hifzur Rahman has held various positions in the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi and the Indian Missions/Posts in Jeddah, Tunis & Riyadh.
He did his Graduation, Masters and Doctorate (Ph.D) from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi and holds Post Graduation Diploma in Journalism. He is fluent in Arabic, English and other Indian languages.
He has authored three books namely (1) India’s role in Promotion of Arab Heritage (Arabic); (2) Social Inclination in Saudi Novels (Arabic); and (3) Shamm-e-Sukhan (Urdu).
He is married to Ms. Nuzhat Iqbal, and they have two daughters and a son.
Dr. Hifzur Rahman assumed the charge as Ambassador to the Syrian Arab Republic on March 21, 2019.
