Report on the  International Yoga Day Celebrations---21 June, 2015

 

The first International Day of Yoga (IDY) was observed in a befitting manner in Cyprus. Two functions were held in Nicosia. 

2. The High Commission organised the main event at Pallouritissa Lyceum premises, a local school, near the buffer zone dividing Cyprus, at 1015 am. The premises for the event was provided free of cost to the mission for holding IDY. 

3.  I made a  short introduction of the significance of the IDY and yoga to the participants. The event was attended by over 80 participants, representing Cypriots from all walks of life, diplomats, yoga teachers, yoga students and practitioners. The Cyprus branch of the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS) participants also participated in the event. The Common Yoga Protocol video was screened, the participants followed and did the yogic postures. 

4.  The entire event has been video recorded and photographed. Following editing, the video will be sent to the ministry for publicity alongwith an album of the photographs taken on the occasion. 

5.  The HSS held the function at Falcon School premises at 820 am. The High Commissioner at the invitation of the HSS, inaugurated by lighting the traditional Indian lamp and also addressed the participants. 

6. The mission will be sending Certificate of participation to all the participants in the coming days.
