India-Maldives sign six agreements and MOUs - Vnews, 11 April 2016

The Governments of India and the Maldives have exchanged agreements and MOUs today.

The official documents were exchanged between Indian Foreign Secretary Dr. SubrahmanyamJaishankar and High Commissioner to India, from Maldives Ahmed Mohamed.

The five key documents, including Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding, were exchanged following high-level discussions held at Hyderabad House between President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The 6 agreements exchanged   were;
1. Agreement between the Government of the Republic of India and the Government of the Republic of Maldives for Avoidance of Double Taxation of Income derived from International Air Transport.

2. Agreement between the Government of the Republic of India and the Government of the Republic of Maldives for the Exchange of Information with Respect to Taxes.

3. Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of India and the Government of the Republic of Maldives for Cooperation in the Area of Conservation and Restoration of Mosques and Joint Research and Exploratory Surveys in Maldives.

4. Bilateral agreement between India and Maldives related to Orbit Frequency Coordination of ‘South Asia Satellite’ proposed at 48E.

5. Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of India and the Government of the Republic of Maldives on Cooperation in the Field of Tourism.

6. Agreement between the Government of the Republic of India and the Government of the Republic of Maldives on Defence Action Plan.

After the exchange of MOUs, President Yameen and Prime Minister gave a joint press statement.
The Maldivian delegation during the President’s official visit to India comprises of Minister of Foreign Affairs Dunya Maumoon, Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr. Mohamed Shainee, High Commissioner to India from Maldives Ahmed Mohamed and Under Secretary at the President’s Office Mohamed Naseer.
