Air transport between Maldives and India to become cheaper Minister Shainee - Sun Online, 12 April 2016

Following the signing the MoU on Agreement between the Government of the Republic of India and the Government of the Republic of Maldives for Avoidance of Double Taxation of Income derived from International Air Transport, air transport between Maldives and India will become cheaper, government has stated.

Speaking at the press briefing on President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s visit to India, Minster of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr. Mohamed Shainee stated that civil aviation authority and airlines have previously noted that the rates for air transport between India and Maldives cannot be cut down due to double taxation.

However, he stressed that it is difficult to estimate the amount which will be cut down from the price.

Moreover, Minister informed that agreement on tourism sector was also signed between India and Maldives, hence Indian Company Leela Group will be contracted to develop and manage a resort in Maldives, in a near future.

Airlines operating flights between India and Maldives include Maldivian and Indian airlines.
