Visit of External Affairs Minister of India, Smt. Sushma Swaraj, to Uzbekistan (4-5 August 2018)  

 

External Affairs Minister of India, Smt. Sushma Swaraj, paid an official visit to Uzbekistan on 4-5 August 2018.   EAM met Foreign Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, H.E. Mr. Abdulaziz Khafizovich Kamilov for wide ranging discussions on bilateral and regional issues.  External Affairs Minister called on H.E. Mr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, H.E., Mr. Abdulla Nigmatovich Aripov the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and   H.E. Mr. Nurdinjon Ismailov, Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of Uzbekistan.

During her visit, External Affairs Minister paid floral tributes to late Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri,  at his memorial on Shastri Street, who had passed away in Tashkent in 1966.  She had an interaction with the Indian community of Tashkent and also had a meeting with Uzbek Indologists, Hindi scholars, ICCR alumni and ITEC students.   She also inaugurated a two-day Uttar Pradesh Mango Festival in Tashkent.

The visit strengthened the traditional close and friendly ties between India and Uzbekistan and provided an opportunity to discuss a wide spectrum of bilateral issues in the context of the forthcoming visit of H.E. the President of Uzbekistan to India.
