Signing-in Ceremony of 10 MOUs under HICDP programme in 10 Afghan provinces on 15-July-2019

 India and Afghanistan further expanded development cooperation between the two countries by signing 10 MoUs for people-centric projects today. These projects are funded under High Impact Community Development (HICDP) scheme implemented by the Government of India in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. 

2.       Since 2001, India has undertaken projects and programs for over USD 2 billion in Afghanistan. In 2016, India pledged an additional allocation of USD 1 billion over the next five years as part of its renewed commitment to assist Afghanistan emerge as a stable, secure, peaceful, united, prosperous and pluralistic nation.

3.       Projects under these ten MoUs signed today come under the ambit of HICDP. Since 2005, Government of India has committed USD 200 Million to support over 550 projects throughout Afghanistan under HICDP. Of these, over 345 projects have been completed while the remaining are in various stages of progress.

4.       Today’s signing ceremony was presided over by H.E. Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan at Sapedar Palace. Tripartite agreements were signed between Government of India, Ministry of Economy and various implementing Ministries such as Ministries of Women ’s Affairs; Refugees and Repatriation; Information and Culture;  Border and Tribal Affairs; Education; Energy and Water; Health; Rural Rehabilitation and Development etc.

5.       Projects under the ten MoUs signed today are related to construction of buildings for market place, cultural halls, classrooms, jirga halls, administrative offices; laying of roads and water supply network. The ten projects are in the following provinces - Daikundi, Panjshir, Ghazni, Uruzgan, Nangahar, Khost, Farah, Maidan Wardak and Takhar.

6.       The Government of India remains committed to take India- Afghanistan development partnership forward in accordance with national priorities of the Government and people of  the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
