Senior officials of the Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Good afternoon.

Indo-Zim Technology Centre (IZTC)

  • Under South–South Cooperation, capacity building has been integral to India’s foreign Policy. India has a unique experience in nation building given our large, diverse and complex reality. Our approach to South-South Cooperation has been, therefore, to share this experience and knowledge in the spirit of solidarity with countries from the south including Zimbabwe, which are treading similar paths of social-economic development.
  • India-Zimbabwe development partnership is versatile, technology intensive and vehicle for sharing cutting edge technology. India believes that technology is vital for developing countries to leap frog into 4th Industrial revolution, thereby positively impacting the lives of the people.
  • I would like to underline here that India has been acutely responsive to the changing priorities and requirement of African Countries. It is in this context that Prime Minister Modi set out the ten guiding principles for India’s engagement with Africa last year. Zimbabwe, as one of our closest friends in Africa, has been included in the priority country to implement this project.
  • In the first phase of this project (US$ 5 million) India has supplied 91 machines (including CNC and conventional machines to 17 centres across Zimbabwe.
  • In the phase 2, we have supplied 73 machines most of which are computer Numerical Controlled (CNC), which are very high tech machines, which include gear hobbing machine, Horizontal machining Centre, Plastic injection moulding, blow moulding machines, CNC bar feeding lath, and honey processing plant machines.  A total of 7 machines are replaced and all other existing machines are serviced.
  • It is heartening to know that the success of this project owes the dedicated officials of your team, Hon’ble Minister in partnership with the high quality and standard of skilled resources provided by technical partner institutions like HIT and Polytechnics. This is the only way forward. While Ministry provides policy framework, the technical institutions that have the technical know-how should be left to make most out of the machines they are most comfortable way to optimize the heavy machines which are meant to work 24*7.
  • I would like to assure you that Government of India will continue to support the Govt of Zimbabwe in its endeavour to revive its economic activity. I hope that these centres continue to remain hub of economic activities in days to come and stand up to the challenges the country is facing currently.
