50th Anniversary Reception of ITEC Day

50th anniversary of ITEC

The function for the 50th anniversary of ITEC was held in Havana on 18th November, 2014 at Embassy Residence. Mr. Rogelio Sierra, Vice Foreign Minister in charge of the bilateral relations was the Chief Guest. Over 200 invitees attended the function.  A large number of dignitaries were present which included Mrs. Ileana Nunez, Vice Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Trade & Investment; Mr. Gerardo Penalver, Director General of
Bilateral Affairs; Mr. Miguel Angel Ramirez, Director, Asia & Oceanic countries in the Ministry of Foreign Relations; Mr. Rigoberto Enoa,
Director, Asia & Oceanic countries in the Ministry of Foreign Trade & Investment and Dr. Rafael Perez Cristia,Director CECMED (Cuban FDA) were present for the function.  Ambassador addressed the gathering informing that this is the 50th year since India started the ITEC programme. India has been sharing its expertise with the developing countries.

Now, the programme has become very diversified with courses in IT, remote sensing, renewable energy, mass communications, women empowerment, rural development, telecommunication, graphic & web designing, environmental studies, etc. It was highlighted that Cuba has been utilizing all the slots allotted to them and till date, 450 Cuban candidates have benefit from ITEC programme in diverse fields.  Mr. Rogelio Sierra, Vice Foreign Minister thanked India for sharing their expertise through ITEC programme.  He acknowledged that Cuban candidates have benefited immensely from India’s ITEC programme and the training has increased the quality of their output.
