Suicide attack in Kabul

Suicide attack in Kabul

Details

Today on November 27, 2008 (Thursday) at around 0835 hours, a suicide bomber detonated his Vehicle Borne IED about 200 meters outside the main entrance to the U.S. Embassy, near Massoud Square in Kabul reportedly against an International Security Forces convoy. As per available information 3 civilians were killed and 16 wounded. The number of casualties was likely to rise because the area was residential and many wounded people were taken to hospitals by their relatives.

2.         The U.S. Embassy was hosting a Thanksgiving Day footrace, and Americans and other Westerners were entering the embassy compound at the time of the explosion. So far this year more than 5,500 people including civilians’ security forces personnel and militants have been killed in insurgency-related violence.

3.         Possibility of more such attacks on high value targets in Kabul and other places in Afghanistan remains a possibility. Threat of abduction of International Community in Kabul and other parts of the country also continues to remain very high.

4.         In view of the security situation in Kabul and other parts of the country, all Indian nationals in Afghanistan are advised to avoid unnecessary road movements. Towards this end, it is reiterated that in case of road journey is to be performed, adequate security protection in the convoy or in the vehicle should be carried. As has been advised from time to time through advisories, Indians must remain extra cautious and be aware of their surroundings in which they work or live. Avoid public places such as bazaars, restaurants and crowded areas. Keeping a safe distance from International Military/ANA/ANP convoys is again reiterated for your own safety and security, as they continue to be a target of militants.
