India-Maldives Health and Wellness Week

The first ever India Health Expo – 2016 was organised in Male, Maldives by the High Commission of India Male from 13-15 February 2016 along with the support of several local organisations including the State Bank of India, Ooredoo, Maldivian (Island Aviation), State Trading Organisation, Male Aerated Water & Beverages Ltd., Kaimoo Hotels, Public Service Media, Renaatus Projects Pvt. Ltd., India Club, Friendship Association of India-Maldives. 

The Expo was launched on 2 Feb 2016 by the High Commissioner H.E. Mr. Akhilesh Mishra in an event in Hotel Jen. The Expo was inaugurated by the Health Minister of Maldives, H.E. Ms. Iruthisham Adam, Chief Guest, and the High Commissioner of India to Maldives, H.E. Mr. Akhilesh Mishra on 12 Feb 2016.  A special publication “India-Maldives: Partners for a Healthier Future” was released by the Chief Guest on the occasion (Click here PDF file that opens in new window. Around 20 Indian hospitals participated in the Expo, which was open to the public for three days from 13-15 Feb 2016.  Around 1000 persons, both locals and expatriates residing in Maldives, visited the Expo over the three days.

An India-Maldives Health Partnership Dialogue, involving leading Indian hospitals, Maldives Ministry of Health, public and private hospitals in Male and other important stake holders of the Maldivian Health sector was organised on February 14, 2016. High Commissioner of India to Maldives, H.E. Mr. Akhilesh Mishra and Maldives Minister of State for Health H.E Mr. Hussain Rasheed inaugurated the dialogue, during which presentations were made by Indian and Maldivian delegations.

Medical camps was organised from 17-19 Feb 2016 in the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for Maldivians were organised by the High Commission. Specialists from NU Hospitals Bangalore and K-Pond Hospitals, Aurangabad provided free Urology, Paediatric Orthopaedic and Paediatric Nephrology consultations to visiting patients. More than 125 patients (more than half of them children) were treated during these camps.

The events of the India-Maldives Health and Wellness Week, which was the first of its kind in Male, received excellent response and appreciation from the Maldivian public and the Government of Maldives.
