India praises progress made by Maldives - Sun Online, January 27, 2016


Indian High Commissioner to Maldives Akhilesh Mishra speaking during ceremony held at Dharubaaruge to celebrate Indian Republic Day.

Indian High Commissioner to Maldives Akhilesh Mishra said that Maldives was the country that had made the most progress from the South East Asian region in terms of education and human resource development, and that India praised and applauded the fact.

Speaking during the ceremony held Tuesday night to celebrate Republic Day of India, Mishra said that Maldives was also on top in the region when it comes to digital literacy and use of social media.

“…I, and the people of India praise and applaud stories of your success,” said Mishra, after highlighting some of the achievements attained by Maldives.

He said that Indians were pleased with, and appreciated the long friendship the two countries had.

Speaking of changes coming to India, Mishra said that India was transforming itself into a true new-age nation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“To transform into a true new-age nation with four things – democracy, freedom of religion, mutually beneficial economic development and gender equality. Prime Minister and his government is working tirelessly to build an easy, goal-oriented, transparent and answerable system of rule, in order to turn this vision into a reality,” he said.

He thanked the support provided by Maldivians and Indians living in Maldives to him. And said that he had never felt such love before during his career as a diplomat.

Ceremony celebrating India’s Republic Day was attended by Maldivian Defense Minister Adam Shareef, Health Minister Iruthisham Adam, Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer, Foreign Secretary Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed, MNDF Chief of Staff Major General Ahmed Shiyam, some parliament members as well as foreign diplomats stationed in Maldives.
