India pledges support for Maldivian army - Miadhu News, 21 Jan 2016

Indian Defense Minister Manohar Parikkar has pledged that his country will continue to provide assistance to the Maldivian army and that any additional assistance required will be catered to.

He made the statement in the meeting held with the Minister of Defense and National Security Adam Shareef Umar, who is in the country on a state visit. In the meeting held, the two Ministers held discussions on the current projects carried out in collaboration between the two nations.

The two Ministers also discussed on ways the existing defense and military relationship can be further extended and enhanced.

Maldivian Ambassador in India Ahmed Mohamed, Vice Chief of Defense Force Brigadier General Ahmed Shahid, Principle Director of Department of International Defense Cooperation and Policy Colonel Abdul Matheen Ahmed and Defense Advisor Colonel Mohamed Shareef took part in the meeting.

Minister Parikkar hosted an official banquet in the honor of Minister Adam Shareef Umar.

Minister Adam Shareef Umar had also met senior Indian Army officials in his trip. He had met Chief of Air Staff, Chief of Navy Staff, Chief of Army Staff and the Director General of Indian Coast Guard. He had also paid a visit to the R and R Hospital and the National Defense College. He was given a guard of honor at the martyr’s memorial at the India Gate, when he paid a visit to the monument.
