H.E. Mr. Atul Malhari Gotsurve,

Ambassador of India to Mongolia


Hailing from Solapur- Pune in Maharashtra, the Western State of India, Atul M. Gotsurve joined the prestigious Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in 2004. After completing his Bachelor and Master’s Degree in Engineering from Pune, he had initially worked as a Lecturer in Civil Engineering in Pune and later as Assistant Director in Central Water Commission, New Delhi, where he was responsible for design of various dam projects, including in Bhutan.

In his career as a diplomat, he has served in Indian Embassy in Mexico and in Cuba, handling a number of portfolios including Political, Commercial, Trade and Investment promotion, Culture and Consular affairs. In the Ministry of External Affairs, he has worked in the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) Division from 2010-2014 in various capacities. From 2014 to 2017 he worked as the Regional Passport Officer of Pune in the State of Maharashtra. During this assignment, he was conferred the Special Recognition Award by the Government of India for setting high standards in passport delivery for citizens in his jurisdiction and for several people friendly initiatives.

In 2017, he was also conferred the Bharat Nirman Award by a leading non-governmental organization in recognition of his citizen friendly work and achievements. During 2017-18, he was the Director in Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi and was responsible for promoting cultural exchanges between India and other countries and people.

He was Ambassador of India to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea from May 2018 to June 2021. In 2018 he was conferred with the Special Recognition Award by Sarkaritel.com for being one of the Youngest Ambassadors of India .

He took over the charge of Joint Secretary (E Governance and Information Technology) in the Ministry of External Affairs in July 2021. He has accomplished various projects w.r.t websites, cyber security, e governance etc. He was the head of the IT vertical of the G20 Secretariat during India’s Presidency of the G20 from 1 Dec 2022 to 30 Nov 2023.

He is serving as the Ambassador of India to Mongolia w.e.f. 30 March 2024.

Atul Malhari Gotsurve has represented India at several International Conferences. Having travelled to more than 35 countries in his official and personal capacity, he likes to explore and experience new customs and culture. He has written on various subjects of his interest including export Promotion, Career guidance, motivation, and Passport and visa awareness for students. He is fluent in Marathi, English, Hindi, and Spanish and has basic knowledge of French. In his leisure time, he also likes to play Cricket, Badminton, Pool, Tennis and Golf.

He is married and has two children.
