Flag Hoisting Ceremony on the occasion of the 62nd Independence Day, 2008

Subject : Flag Hoisting Ceremony on the occasion of the 62nd Independence Day, 2008

As you are all aware, the Embassy of India celebrates the Independence Day every year by hoisting of the National Flag, singing of the National Anthem and reading out of the excerpts of the speech of the President of India delivered on the eve of the Independence Day by the Indian Ambassador.

This year the Embassy of India proposes to celebrate the occasion of the 62nd Independence Day in the same manner and extends invitation to all Indian nationals resident in Kabul and working in various organizations to join in the ceremony scheduled to be held at 0930 hours in the morning of August 15, 2008.

After the suicide attack on the Embassy of India on July 7, 2008, the Ministry of Interior has closed the main road in front of the Embassy from both ends of the road for security reasons. We have requested the Ministry of Interior to allow Indian nationals for the ceremony in the morning of August 15, 2008. All Indian nationals are requested to carry their Indian Passports for identification and verification while coming to the Embassy and show it to the security personnel manning both ends of the road. We would try to place Embassy staff along with Afghan security to help in the identification. You are also requested to avoid carrying briefcases, handbags, water bottles, cigarette lighters etc for the function to help us and reach the Embassy premises latest by 0915 hours on that day. You are also requested to inform other Indians in your contact who would like to join the function.
