Celebration of National Youth Day and 62nd Anniversary of India-Cuba Diplomatic relations

Celebration of National Youth Day on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda’s Birth Anniversary and 62nd Anniversary of India-Cuba diplomatic relations

As part of AKAM celebrations, the Mission celebrated National Youth Day on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary and 62nd Anniversary of establishment of India-Cuba diplomatic relations on 12th February 2022.

The event was honoured by the presence of Director Mr. Alberto Blanco from Ministry of External Relations, Government of Cuba accompanied by Ms. Mariana Casanova Rogue and Mr. Abel Perez Garcia from Asia and Oceania Division.  Ms. Aymée del Carmen Chicuri Lastra, Art Curator from National Museum of Fine Arts had delivered a lecture on Swami Vivekananda and his contribution towards inspiring the youth in Cuba. Dignitaries from Ministry of Sports, Government of Cuba, Cuban Institute of Friendship and Peoples (ICAP), Director, House of Asia, Center for State Control of Medicines, Equipment and Medical Devices (CEDMED)  attended the event.

Ambassador thanked the Chief Guest and spoke about the milestones of relations between India and Cuba and mentioned India was one of the first countries to extend recognition to Cuban new government in 1959 following  Cuban revolution. He highlighted historical events between the two countries including exchange of high level visits.  He also spoke about contributions of Swami Vivekananda and how it has inspired and contributed to the society especially the youth.

Director Blanco thanked Ambassador for the invitation to participate in the celebration of the 62nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Cuba and the Republic of India, coinciding with the commemoration of the National Youth Day in India and within the framework of the celebrations for the 75 years of the Independence of a legendary nation. He  spoke about the historical ties between India and Cuba and the development being made on natural and traditional medicine with the support of India. He also mentioned how health and culture are intertwined citing the example of  expansion of Yoga in Cuba and which is celebrated every year. He spoke about the high level visits taken place between both countries with the last visit of President of India in 2018. He also spoke about  the deepening of close friendship between the two peAfter 62 years, the close friendship and mutual sympathy between the two countries and how the city of Havana is the proud custodian of the monument to Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore.

Following the local restrictions due to Covid pandemic, the event was celebrated with limited number of people and also observing the social distancing norms.
