Program Outline

Session I: Trends, Innovation & Global Best practices (9 February)

Innovation in packaging takes many forms from blending rigid and flexible packaging to a myriad of possibilities in various sectors, which can even be game-changers in the market. Manufactured goods aligned with the logistical demands becomes key for industrial packaging whereas aligning with the changing profile of Indian consumer & preferences – aspects of branding, shelf life, consumer convenience etc. become major levers in consumer packaging.

Session II: Building Strategic Advantage through Packaging - A Collaborative Approach (9 February)

To succeed in the world’s competitive playing field in both large and small retail outlets, manufacturers must be sure to capture and retain the attention of their consumers. Companies have to gain unique advantages to acquire and retain customers and packaging is one key sector which can offer this unique-strategic advantage as they are first point of product contact with the customers. The session will delve in to topics on Consumer Packaging - Challenges & Opportunities for a multi-retailing format, Brand & Supply Chain Perspectives, Industrial packaging - QCD advantage by design and so on.

Session III: Packaging Material Flow Processes & Systems - Productivity & Compliance (9 February)

Exacerbated pressure on the prices along with concerns on availability of contract labor indicates the need for manufacturing consolidation and adoption of automation and advanced systems / technologies, at different levels of the supply chain. This progress is necessary to meet  and achieve - marketing demands,  sustainability regulations and economies of scale, and thereby effectively involve and support in the brand owner and retailer’s strategic and leadership agenda. The session focuses on Integrated Packaging & Material Handling Automation Systems - Industry 4.0, No touch Automation; Smart Packaging Solutions -Technology Trends; on - demand packaging for e commerce - Cost efficiencies & flexibility amongst others.

Session IV: Regulatory Standards & Skill Development (9 February)

Advancing traceability in today’s complex global supply chain is critical for manufacturers to meet regulatory mandates and manage issues like quality, product recalls & manufacturing inefficiencies. To help brands improve product traceability and support greater consumer engagement a lot of initiatives are happening worldwide which is very important for Indian industries which serves both the emerging (domestic) and global markets. Further, packaging industry being one of the largest employers (direct & indirect employment - packaging industry, user industries & services providers), it is necessary to focus on skill and knowledge, mainly in light of a regulated and technology enabled packaging sector. The session would focus on Compliance & Regulatory Framework, Global Trade Compliance & Competitiveness: Infrastructure - People - Process Capability Model; Packaging Industry - Employment & Skill enhancement model and so on.

Session V: Digital Opportunities – Packaging (10 February)

Millennial consumers are transforming the economy each day and to meet the expectations of the newer generation, industries have to become innovative and deploy a gamut of digital technologies for reforming the retail experience. Rising Internet penetration and digitization could upend traditional sales models. The session covers: FMCG perspective - Use of Technology to reduce product development  cycle time; Technology provider perspective  - Optimize your pack design - Design Simulation & VR capabilities; Cloud solutions & Big Data alignment - Opportunities for Indian Packaging industry; Factory automation model; IOT capabilities  etc.

Session VI: Sustainable Packaging (10 February)

In an age where sustainability is not an option anymore, more compostable and innovative packaging are needed to be developed and this needs collaborated efforts from industries, institutions, innovators, start-ups and so on. While reducing the materials used for packaging and light weighting of packaging become critical areas of the sustainability debate, manufacturers also seek to reduce their energy consumption and improve their environmental credentials which together focuses on areas like Product Life cycle assessment models for Packaging formats, Establishing a commercially viable model - Post Consumer waste recycling; Zero waste model for Industrial packaging etc.
